Every good home renovation project needs a few charity shop treasures, and this Victorian-style dresser was one of our best finds. At just £25, it had good bones but needed some serious love.
Assessing the Piece
The veneer was peeling in places, one drawer was sticking, and the whole thing had that musty smell that comes from years in someone's spare room. But the proportions were beautiful and the carved details were intact.
The Restoration
We started by removing all hardware and giving everything a thorough clean. The sticking drawer just needed its runners waxed. The peeling veneer was carefully glued down where possible, and sanded smooth where it couldn't be saved.
A light sanding all over prepared the surface for paint. We used the same sage green as our kitchen cabinets for a cohesive look throughout the cottage.
Styling Tips
Now it lives in our hallway, holding vintage books, a ceramic vase, and seasonal flowers. It's often the first thing guests comment on when they arrive.
